Blooms:Striking and fragrant flower spikes on new wood in early summer,
and sporadically until early fall.
"Rosea" has pink flower spikes, "Alba" has white. Following the flowers, fleshy but
inconspicuous fruit forms that contains four seeds. These are sometimes
used as seasoning, like pepper. Leaves: Compound leaves with 5 to 7 finger-like leaflets. Grey-green above and greyish and somewhat fuzzy below, aromatic, "Latifolia" has larger foliage. Soil:Easy to grow in moderate to moist,fertile, well drained soil. Not hard to grow in almost any soil that has good drainage! Even tolerant of salt drift. Light: Sun to shade. Height:Plant grows 10'-20' Uses:As a specimen flowering tree. As part of a mixed border if kept pruned to shrub size. Prune when dormant. |
