Fall-Blooming Camellias


Many camellias do well in Mobile, but these Camellia varieties have been selected by Fairhope camellia grower Bobby Green for their ease of care, quality of bloom and availability.


Chansonette (C. hiernalis) Deep, bright lavender-pink blooms - formal double. Low bushy grower with rambling branches. Can be espaliered, or used as tall groundcover.

Choji Guruma (Wheel of Anemone) (C. sasanqua) Small rose-pink anemone form flowers in late fall. Loose, upright shrub.

Dawn (C. vernalis) Blooms are white suffused with pink, appearing in early winter. The shrub is upright and graceful.

Daydream (C. sasanqua) Originating in Mobile, this has a pretty foliage - dense, shiny and dark green. Large, showy white tinged with pink flowers appear on older shrubs. Can be used for a clipped tall hedge or screen

Egao (Smiling face) (C. vernalis) Semi-double deep pink flowers bloom from late fall into early winter. Upright and spreading growth.

Hana Jiman (C. sasanqua) Large semi-double flowers have fluted petals, white with a wide border of red-violet. Strong and upright grower, yet compact.

Kanjiro (C. hiernalis) Semi-double deep rose flowers bloom over a long period. Vigorous growth with a free-flowering habit

Leslie Ann (C. sasanqua) Heavy blooming. White flowers with a picoteed magenta edging. Upright and compact habit.

Little Pearl (C. sasanqua) Semi-double flowers are light pink in bud form, opening to white. Very compact grower, ideal for growing in containers

Mine-No-Yuki (Snow on the Mountain) (C. sasanqua) Wide, bushy, pendulous growth can be used in groups as screen, or as a specimen tree. Profuse creamy white flowers appear from late fall to early winter.

Rose of Autumn (C. hiernalis) A Green's Nursery introduction. Large, many petalled semi-double flowers are warm rose with a wavy edge. Vigorous upright growth with dark green leaves.

Sarrel (C. sasanqua) Cascading habit makes is a favorite for use in hanging baskets or to top a wall. A great ground cover. Large lavender-pink semi-double to loose peony-form flowers. Performs best in light shade.

Shi-Shi-Gashira ( Beni-Kan-Tsubaki) (C. hiernalis) Dwarf bush has compact, dense foliage that can be shaped for low hedges, or containers. Double rose-red flowers from October thru New Year. Slow growing, but can easily be kept to three feet tall.

Star Above Star (C. vernalis) Large lavender-white ruffled flowers flushed with pink at the tips of outer petals, Young plants are willowy, but will become strong dense bushes or small trees.

Stephanie Golden (C. sasanqua) Very compact, upright, dense growth. Flowers are a stong clear pink in great profusion over a long period

Tanya (C. sasanqua) Perfect for smaller area, this shrub has a semidwarf habit, with small pointed foliage. Rose-pink single flowers appear as early as Sept.-October.

Yuletide (C. vernalis) Uniquely orange-red flowers make it a favorite Christmas container plant. Upright dense growth shows off small singles flowers. Use as a vertical accent, or a container specimen.
