A project of the Mobile Tricentennial Commission, ReBloom is a community-wide endeavor to establish Mobile's position as one of the most beautiful cities in the USA.

Seventy-five years ago, a community-wide gardening effort made Mobile "The Azalea City". As Mobile begins its fourth century, ReBloom aims to rekindle that spirit of community gardening - but this time taking full advantage of Mobile's unique position in one of the most gardening- friendly sections of the country. Abundant rainfall and a year-rounded mild climate allow 12 months of continuous, city-wide color in flower and fruit.

Through ReBloom, the Tricentennial Commission aims to enhance the city for the enjoyment of all its citizens and to lay the foundation for future development of Mobile green spaces, so that this city will once again become famous for its abundance of blooms.

Many government and private agencies already involved with community beautification form the nucleus of the ReBloom Mobile effort, including Keep Mobile Beautiful, Streetscapes, Mobile County Master Gardeners, Mobile Botanical Gardens, the Festival of Flowers, City of Mobile Parks and Recreation Department, the Urban Forestry Department and the Auburn University Extension Service. All organizations and individuals are encouraged to join the ReBloom Mobile effort.

A Green Space Master Plan was unveiled at the Festival of Flowers in March 2001. This has been adopted by the City of Mobile as a long-term guideline for future maintenance and implementation of new and existing green spaces.

For area householders, a blooming calendar for the Gulf Coast area is available in print from participating retail outlets or online - Color By The Yard, updated for 2002. This features just a few of the plants that will add color to your yard throughout the year.
